Summer Pest Prevention: What You Can Do to Get Ahead
Summer is great for many reasons: the warm weather, the stress-free mentality, and the fun that summer days and nights bring. But, with every high, there is typically a low. In summer’s case, that low is a surge in the insect population. Fortunately for you, there are some things you can do to avoid the bites and stings that get in your way while you’re enjoying the outdoors.
#1. Maintain Your Yard
A tidy yard equals fewer bugs! Simple right? Not necessarily. There is a lot of hard work that comes with maintaining a yard but, at Vulcan Termite and Pest Control, we make sure that it’s as easy as it gets by helping with mosquito control. However, it is important to keep in mind that having your grass mowed, trimming the hedges, and removing yard waste doesn’t happen overnight.
#2. Get Rid of Standing Water
While having a birdbath adds a beautiful ambience to your garden, they are a breeding pool for mosquitoes! Consider keeping standing water to a minimum. That can mean water from buckets, flower pots, and more! So, to help give mosquitoes the boot, get rid of some of the pools or baths of water around your yard and garden.
#3. Firewood Storage: Tips and Tricks
Termites love firewood. If you store firewood in an easy-to-reach spot, they’ll quite literally eat it all up. As this isn’t ideal for you, keep your firewood on a rack of some kind to ensure it doesn’t get too close to the ground; plus, termites will be less likely to reach it! However, if you’re unable to place the firewood on racks, keep the pile of wood at least five feet away from your home. The further you store your firewood, the less likely termites will find their way to your home! Read more about termites on our website.
#4. Doors, Windows, and Cracks—Oh, My!
When summertime comes ‘round, it’s common to want to keep your doors and windows open or cracked for the fresh, warm air to come in. While that’s great and all, it’s also a gateway for mosquitoes, wasps, bees, spiders, and more to come into your home! An effective way to keep them out is to keep everything closed and even check for cracks in your doors, windows, or floorboards. You may not get all the summer air you desire, but you’ll definitely keep out the unwanted guests.
#5. Call a Pest Control Service
This is the best way to prevent summer bugs from getting into your home or infecting your space. Don’t let summer pests, insects, and bugs ruin your summer. Enjoy the warm weather, the stress-free mentality, and the fun that summer days and nights bring—without the fear of bug bites or creepy crawlies.
