How to Have a Pest-Free Lawn by Easter
Many religious and non-religious American families celebrate Easter holidays with outdoor festivities like egg dyeing, hunting, or picnic brunches. Since Easter is almost here, it is time to ensure your family’s safety by guaranteeing you’ll have a pest-free lawn.

Consider Hiding Only Plastic Eggs
Boiled hen eggs are the traditional choice for Easter egg dyeing. Still, the only issue with using them for egg hunts on your property is that their scent is enticing to bugs, rodents, snakes, and other animals potentially lurking near your property.
Plastic eggs are a tremendous odorless alternative, especially if your crew forgets where they hid one of them. Plus, you can hide treats, like coins and individually wrapped candies, inside plastic eggs, which isn’t possible with boiled eggs.
Keep Grass Cut Low
One of the most important steps to ensure a pest-free lawn this spring/Easter is to keep your grass cut low and clear the clippings after you finish mowing. Without high grass to hide in, pests have a more challenging time stowing away on your lawn.
Clear Other Debris
In addition to maintaining low-cut grass and clearing the clippings, clearing your lawn to keep it pest-free also applies to other potential pest hideaways, such as unraked leaves, pine cones, branches, twigs, and puddles of standing water.
Sometimes, clearing debris also includes yard decor like gnomes, flamingos, pinwheels, flags, etc. If you’re set on keeping such items in your yard, regularly clear it of dirt and critters and implement some sort of deterrent, like chili powder spray, to keep it pest-free without dangerous chemicals.
Maintain Outdoor Garbage Cans
There’s nothing ugs, rats, and other pests love more than a stinky outdoor garbage can. Keep pests away by:
- Pressure wash or hose rinse garbage cans bi-monthly or as soon as their smell becomes putrid, even when empty.
- Avoid disposing of unbagged or uncontained garbage in your outdoor garbage cans to prevent garbage juice or other contents from leaking.
- When your outdoor trashcans are empty, periodically spray them and the area around them with bug spray, letting them air out sufficiently before putting trash in them again.
